About Us

The Rukus consists of Rude and KeithElite on the mics with DJ Blenda on the decks. Rude and Keith have been crew since high school when we lived overseas in Okinawa, Japan. We linked up with Blenda and the rest of the Gwan Massive collective in Tampa a few years back. Rude is behind the production, the mic, and the mixing boards and KeithElite is the cat that's always down to freestyle . Overall, we'd like people to listen to our music and knod their heads to what they hear. We'd also like to network with other musicians who have the same vision and focus about their music as we do. We're glad to be a part of what is going on in Tampa and helping the scene grow. Besides rockin the stage with the Gwan Massive crew, we've also performed on bills with the likes of Surreal, Louis Logic, RADIx, LMNO of The Visionaries, !Mayday!, Hangar 18, The AB's (formerly Asamov), Blackalicious, J-Live, and the legendary De La Soul, as well as rockin the 2nd Stage of the Rock The Bells Festival in Miami, just to name a few... Be on the lookout for that official full length release in 2011. It's coming.

Local Radio Spins this Week

We have to give some BIG shoutouts to all the Tampa radio heads that showed us love this week by spinning the "Move" record. First and foremost I gotta shout out, the man DJ Fader. He's had the joint for a while now and was the first to play it in a venue (Orpheum) and then the first to play it on radio airwaves at 88.5fm (WMNF.org) last Saturday. Lazy and BC held us down on Hip Hop Flavors on Tuesday night, Slick Worthington gave us a spin on Pirate Radio Invasion (bullsradio.org) Friday night, and DJ Silent Rage and DJ Lowdown supported last night with another spin on the Saturday Night Shutdown right after the main man, Jinx. That in itself was dope because Jinx is like family... All in all, a great week. On behalf of myself, Rude, and Breakdown, thank you all again. More to come.
